A training on the application of GPS, Camera Traps and Drones for wildlife research, monitoring, and conservation was conducted within Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Sanctuary for rangers. This was conducted from 5th to 9th October 2025. Participants to this training were seconded by the Management of Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Sanctuary from different departments including research and monitoring, tourism, crime investigations, law enforcement and general management.
All the Participants were equipped with knowledge on how to operate and use these tools, collect and interpret the findings, make analysis and draw conclusions depending on departmental roles and responsibilities. Participants were actively engaged in the theoretical and practical sessions build bases for reporting and have hands on experiences to operate the tools.
This training exposed the participants to new tools and options in solving conservation problems. Although the participants were empowered and attained new skills, there is need to equip the sanctuary with these tools for effective practice and application in especially research, monitoring and conservation of the Rhinos, which is Critically Endangered.
The training was funded by BINGO ENVIRONMENTAL FOUNDATION and implemented by ECOLOGICAL TRENDS ALLIANCE in collaboration with REGENERATIVE SAFARI VENTURES.
